Marine generating sets from 4 to 50 kVA

Over more than 30 years of generator manufacturing, we have built a strong reputation in the generating set market. We work closely with you from the initial quotation stage, through verification of the electrical installation design, engineering of special generator solutions, right through to installation on the vessel.

Years of developing these marine generating sets has led us to introduce many of them into our standard product range, based on Kubota base engines. The resulting generating sets range from 3.7 to 50 kVA, and thanks to our extensive experience we can build a generating set tailored to individual requirements.

BetaSet-BetaGen generators are built on technically advanced KUBOTA engines, known for smooth, quiet operation and high torque available at low RPM. Low fuel consumption, durability and longevity make them excellent base engines for generating sets.

All generators in the range use Mecc Alte (UK) Ltd. alternators, manufactured in Great Britain by a manufacturer operating under the ISO quality system.

2, 3 and 4-cylinder engines are fitted with an inertia ring on the flywheel, ensuring smooth power delivery.

The engine is equipped with glow plugs to assist cold starting below 5°C, a fuel filter, a MECHANICAL fuel lift pump, a MECHANICAL injection pump and mechanically governed timing, ensuring reliable operation and starting regardless of weather conditions. The camshaft is gear-driven*, which further increases reliability and reduces servicing requirements, as there is no timing chain or V-belt/toothed belt to replace.

Engines in this range can be mounted at an angle of up to 15° in a fixed installation and up to 25° on a yacht subject to heeling. Mounting at an angle greater than 15° requires approval from Diesel Air.

All BetaSet and BetaGen generator models are equipped as standard with 12V electric start. Models up to BetaSet and BetaGen 21 have a 45A alternator, while from BetaSet and BetaGen 26 to BetaSet and BetaGen 49, 70A alternators with isolated ground are used. Some models can be fitted with 24V alternators.

The engine and alternator are assembled together and mounted on steel brackets supported on marine rubber anti-vibration mounts providing isolation. Optionally, each BetaSet generator can be mounted on an additional steel base frame.

All BetaSet and BetaGen generator models can be cooled via a heat exchanger, keel cooler or radiator. The exception is the BetaSet and BetaGen 40 and 49 Stage IIIA, which are turbocharged.

*In the BetaSet and BetaGen 40, 49 and 40 and 49 Stage IIIA models, the valve timing is electronically assisted.

Generators are supplied as standard with a PSM720 or EPM72 control panel fitted on a 3-metre cable.

The alternator in a marine specification generator operates at a power factor of 0.8, generating a frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. The alternator is ventilated, runs on a single bearing and has a splash-proof IP 22 enclosure. The alternator is self-exciting, self-regulating and is fitted with a terminal box and voltage regulator. The generator is designed for operation in an engine room up to 45°C. The standard 50 Hz frequency gives 230V single phase or 400V three phase. 60 Hz frequency gives 120V single phase and 208V three phase. Other voltages are available as a special option.

Kubota engines feature the modern three-vortex combustion system (E-TVCS) and indirect injection, resulting in low emissions and exceptionally low fuel consumption. The exception is generators that must meet the Stage IIIA standard, namely BetaSet and BetaGen 40 and 49.

Engines meeting the Stage IIIA standard feature a central direct injection system. As a result, the BetaSet and BetaGen 40 and 49 Stage IIIA engines generate low emissions and low fuel consumption.
